Don't Rush Greatness

On this ordinary Saturday morning, riding through the streets of Jacksonville, The Holy Spirit whispered something sacred to me in the back of an Uber.

As I passed beneath oak trees and the zipped between the cars on I-295. I heard The Holy Spirit say: “Don’t rush greatness”

I arrived at a coffee shop, the kind where people where headphones and dreams.

And as Rick James whispered Mary Jane through the speakers. The Lord handed me a word that has burned in my bones ever since. 

Scripture- Matthew 20:3- 22:16

In Matthew 20, Jesus tells the laborers in the vineyard.

One hired in the early morning.

Another at the third hour.

Another at the sixth.

Another at the ninth.

And some… didn’t come into the field until the eleventh hour.

But hear me now— they all got the same reward.

And the ones who’d been working all day said:

Lord, is this fair?

And he answered:

“Did I not agree with you for a penny? Is your eye evil because I am good?

In other words: Divine timing does not follow man’s logic.

We live in a world that glorifies the grind, that pressures you to bloom in January even if your season is Spring.

But I came to tell someone today: YOU ARE NOT BEHIND. YOU ARE IN DIVINE POSITION.

Don’t let Instagram fool you.

Don’t let the highlight reels make you think your soil is dry.

Baby you ain’t late-

Nah sweet love, you are being refined not rushed.

Because greatness isn’t microwaved.

It’s marinated.

And when God prepares you for purpose, He doesn’t cut corners. 

David was anointed young, but he didn’t wear the crown until years later. 

Moses stuttered through the wilderness before he spoke to Pharoah.

Jesus waited 30 years for a 3-year ministry that shook the world.

So tell me again- what’s the rush?

You see systems are built to distract you.

Capitalism will convince you that your calling is competition.

Patriarchy will tell you to shrink.

White Supremacy will tell you to submit.

But God said— your time is not on their clock. 

And greatness is not on sale at no damn 9-to-5.

It is time to stop asking for permission to rise. 

Stop begging the world to see you.

Don’t rush greatness.

Because every delay is divine alignment.

You see I see a generation that is tired of the rush.

I see women reclaiming their pace, men laying down the sword of performative strength, and children who dream without apology.

And I say to you- walk your path with boldness. Rest if you must. But don’t rush.

Because your greatness…

is rooted.

it is rising.

It is already written.

And so I sit in this cafe,

with Rick James singing Mary Jane in the background.

and I hear the irony.

Even the saints need a slow burn.

Don’t rush it. Don’t force it. Don’t fold.

Greatness is unfolding in you like a slow cup of pour-over coffee.
